When we first came to this drought ridden land what welcomed us were the dried trees and the empty skies that had been deafened, from the pleas for rain! Every drop of water meant a walk for 5 kilometres! During the dry seasons this distance was twice. The rainwater washed away the soil leaving no scope for agriculture. With no water and fodder to feed, the cattle had to be abandoned. And migration seemed to be the only option left. But every crisis is an opportunity. An opportunity to do what has never been done before. An opportunity to bring a community together irrespective of caste, gender and creed. EFICOR mobilised the community, provided them with awareness trainings, constructed drought mitigation structures, develop various means of sustaining their livelihood, promoting health, literacy, access to Govt schemes, Advocacy and Networking helped the community to become resilient and better equipped to cope with drought conditions.
This journey not only brought water to these dry lands. but also brought these desert dwellers together, to be responsible. Skills were enhanced and livelihood secured! Techniques were applied and preventive measures were imparted. Barren lands are now fertile.
Food security is assured. Awareness brought about confidence to beat the challenges. Education brought Knowledge and Advocacy fetched justice. Access was granted and sustainability nurtured. Promising a better tomorrow
