Sub: Appeal for support towards “Fani” Cyclone, Odisha Relief intervention of EFICOR
As you all know Odisha faced the second worst cyclone ever recorded on May 3, 2019. The number of deaths is officially quoted as 16 (as on May 5, 2019). Thanks to the State administration for the early evacuation of people to safer locations that reduced the casualties.
However, the cyclone has caused severe destruction to houses, crops, infrastructure, livelihood and also uprooted a number of trees. The assessment is still being carried out to get the full details of destruction. The government is involved in massive restoration work across 10,000 villages and 52 urban areas ravaged by the storm.
EFICOR has deputed three of its staff to do the need assessment. They have visited slums and villages in Puri and Bhubaneswar districts. EFICOR intends to provide support for 15,000 families with food and non-food items including WASH items. We are hoping to provide relief materials worth Rs. 4000 per family in both Puri and Bhubaneswar districts. The initial relief response of providing food materials will start from May 7, 2019.
We appreciate your constant support towards EFICOR’s relief response during the past disasters. We once again look forward to your generous contributions to stand along with the people affected by the flood.
