An
integrated approach to community development
that combines diverse but inherently interconnected
issues of economy, environment, literacy,
health and local governance is adopted for
progress and transformation.
|
Local Governance
People’s
participation in planning, designing
and implementing programmes and
community leadership are facilitated
by forming strong core groups like
Village Development Councils (VDC),
Regional Development Councils (RDC)
and Area Development Councils (ADC). |
|
Literacy
Communities
are assisted to become literate having
basic skills of literacy and numeracy
so as to gain self-confidence, develop
new skills and not be exploited.
Literacy materials have been developed
for tribal dialects which do not have
a script. Women who have been empowered
through literacy are instrumental
in social change within their communities.

Environment
EFICOR
facilitates local communities in the
conservation, regeneration and development
of their natural resources through
building their capacities in sustainable
agricultural practices, watershed
development and afforestation initiatives.
Safe
drinking water has been
provided to needy
communities
in different parts of the country
by installing hand pumps using deep
bore wells, reducing water borne
diseases to a great extent. Community
ownership of wells is encouraged
through formation of water committees
and training in maintenance of hand
pumps.
Integrated
watershed development
by
constructing check dams, small and
medium water reservoirs, nursery
development, tree plantations to
conserve natural resources are being
implemented. |
|
Economic Empowerment
Self-Help
Groups (SHGs) are formed with a special
emphasis on women empowerment. Accessibility
to loans and skills training are provided
to assist these groups enhancing income
generation and quality of life. |
|
Health Education
Health
education is provided to tribal villages
where EFICOR is involved. Lack of
awareness is a major cause of ill
health in remote tribal villages.
Health educators teach the families
preventive health care practices,
hygiene and good nutrition. A health
kit is provided to each village which
consisting of basic drugs like aspirin,
paracetamol, anti-diarroheal and anti-malarials.

and care homes for marginalised groups
such as Commericial Sex Workers (CSW),
People living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA),
Rag pickers and Street Children etc.
