Alleviating people affected by disaster from pain and loss, giving them a hope for the future and assist them in rebuilding their lives is the focus of Disaster intervention programmes. EFICOR was involved in major disasters of the country and in about 10 – 15 minor disasters each year.

Relief
Major disaster interventions are carried out by EFICOR directly with the assistance of volunteers, while minor relief programmes are carried out by the partner groups. Priority is given to interior areas which usually are not covered by other NGOs and duplication is avoided. Beneficiaries are selected according to need across sections of the community and care is taken that all of them receive the assistance.

Rehabilitation
Rehabilitation programmes are aimed at restoring the affected communities back to as close as possible to their living condition before the disaster affected. Different kinds of rehabilitation programmes are undertaken, ie. Food for Work, Reconstruction of houses, Restoration of land for cultivation, etc.

Preparedness and Mitigation
Community based disaster preparedness programmes are organised in selected disaster prone areas, to train the people to respond immediately and appropriately so as to minimise the damage when a disaster strikes.
