34th FAO conference on Right to Food was held from November 15-21, 2007 in Italy, Rome. EFICOR was represented by its Program Director, Mr. Sanjeev K Bhanja as Southern Policy Advisor to CFGB (Canadian Food Grains Bank) on issues of food sovereignty particularly on macro level policy matters.

During the conference EFICOR was registered under FIAN (First Food Information & Action Network) thus getting an access to the Right to Food unit of FAO. EFICOR took part in discussions on food aid issues especially on the WTO clause on in-kind food aid in non-emergency situation that prohibits countries to buy food from local markets even in normal circumstances.

EFICOR was also a part of the IPC (International Planning Committee) working Group on Right to Food and also the side event called ‘The Voluntary Guidelines on the Right to Food as a monitoring tool’. It was convened by the Right to Food unit of FAO.

EFICOR’s participation in this conference led to establishment of effective networks with other national and International organizations and provided a great time of learning.
