| EFICOR’S EMERGENCY OPERATIONS IN FLOOD HIT STATES |
|
Bihar: The monsoon regularly brings flooding to India but this year has seen some of the worst in recent times with the north and east of the country particularly Bihar. Rain in the upper catchment areas of Nepal has resulted in the rise of the water level of Bagmati, Kosi and Gandak rivers and has affected 19 districts of Bihar. Nearly 5 million people were affected in 2000 villages across 11 districts. All major rivers are continuing to rise and some were flowing above the danger mark as on 31st July 2007 The affected people are largely the villagers from districts such as Muzaffarpur, Sitamarhi, Madhubani, Darbhanga, Bhagalpur, Sheohar, Saharsa, Patna, Katihar, East and West Champaran. Of all these districts, the worst affected districts are Muzaffarpur, Darbhanga and Madhubani. The villagers were situated in the most interior part of the states that results in difficult intervention to reach them.
