Malana Relief

EFICOR carried out a relief operation in Malana, Himachal Pradesh with the Delhi Mizo Christian Fellowship (Youth Department) and their local partner the Dar-Ul-Fazl Children's Home, Manali

The Delhi Mizo Christian Fellowship and Dar-Ul-Fazl Children's Home have previously conducted medical camps in that village. Relief materials were given to 184 affected families on 27 June 2008. The relief package consisted of flour, rice, dal, cooking oil, salt and a grocery bag consisting of turmeric powder, onions and washing soap.

The relief team consisted of EFICOR staff, young people from the Delhi Mizo Christian Fellowship, staff of Dar-Ul-Fazl Children's Home and volunteers from the Mahila Mandal of Manali area. The team pitched camp for 2 days. The relief was delayed by a day due to heavy rain causing rock and land slides which blocked the road. Distribution was done at a common point at the last point where vehicles could gain access. The team also was involved in conducting a medical camp in the village in assistance with Lady Willingdon Hospital, Manali.

Malana is a village north-east of Kullu Valley in Himachal Pradesh. This solitary village in the Parvati valley is isolated from the rest of the world. Unaffected by the modern civilization, Malana has its own lifestyle and social structure. People are strict in following their customs. This isolated, independent and self governed village lies on latitude of 11500 feet high from the sea level, on the Himalayas.

Fire broke out in Malana village on 6th January 2008 affecting 185 houses. Relief efforts were slow to reach the community as the whole area was covered in snow soon after for several weeks.
