Reconciliation and Peace initiative programmme
EFICOR is involved in the Reconciliation and Peace initiative programmme along with other civil society organizations and the District Administration following the Kandhamal Communal violence.
A peace event named Antaranga (Intimacy) commenced the Peace initiative programme in Kandhamal where different cultural programs and sports meet involving youth from both the communities took place from 22nd -24th Dec 08. About 2500 youths from all the communities took part in the event. Football, Cricket and Volley Ball matches, song and dance programs were organized. The district administration and people’s representatives were also present in the occasion. A peace committee meeting comprising leaders from the tribal, Hindu and Christian communities was organized. The District Collector Kandhamal chaired the meeting. The Bandh called by the Hindu fundamentalist was withdrawn. Thus the peace process, to a great extent, helped the Christians living in camps and villages of Kandhamal to celebrate Christ mas with joy and happiness.
Antaranga today is carrying forward its efforts through its clubs in all the 153 panchayats of Kandhmal to spread the message of peace, reconciliation and the beauty of diversity.
